The journey begins

Hello, and Welcome…

Welcome ladies and gentlegerms for here is my first attempt at a blog post – the journey begins.

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

So I’m Gemma and I started a very important journey back in August 2017. It all started with a book, a wonderful book by the glorious Jes Baker, called Things No one Will Tell Fat Girls. It blew my tiny, chubby, diet obsessed mind. If this fabulous woman could give me the secret to happiness, then I would be set for life.

See I’m pretty blessed, I have a husband who adores me, amazing friends and family, a job, a roof over my head, two stupid fur babies, and I’m part of a secret girl gang BUT it wasn’t enough. Because how can this all be great when I’m not thin enough to enjoy it? I’m a failure right?

Because for 30 years my obsession with food, diets, Slimming World. Weight Watchers, sugar free, fat free, 5%, 1% fat, sweetener, Diet Coke, and body shaming myself into oblivion proved I didn’t deserve to be happy. I was no thinner and in fact I’m probably the heaviest I’ve ever been. But in reading this book, something happened. My mind-set changed. Fuck it. I deserve happiness and love and the size of my arse doesn’t calculate my worth, nor should it negate all those wonderful things in my life. So I took all the photos of me, smiling, happy and in a bikini and posted them on Facebook. No one chased me away with pitch forks. In fact I got nothing but love.

Since then it’s not been an easy ride, loving yourself after so many years of self hatred isn’t an over night fix, it’s hard work. But fuck it, I owe it to myself and all the people I love to stop ragging on the girl that they all love. So here it is… Me in my full, fat and fabulous glory. I will tell you my story in bits and pieces, probably post pics of me in my undercrackers, and other outfits, give you my tuppence worth on body image, style, diets, loving yourself (and other people) . I do not profess to be qualified or a kind of guru. I just want to share. If you made it this far… Thank you.
